Covers the commissioning notification and the mandatory periodic inspections carried out by the local health or environmental authority or by ministry-authorised bodies. It does NOT cover routine electrical maintenance, the D.M. 37/2008 declaration of conformity or fire-safety checks.

Notify electrical installations in explosive atmospheres
For electrical installations located in areas with explosion risk, the employer sends the installer's declaration of conformity to the competent local health or environmental authority within 30 days of commissioning; here type approval is performed by that authority, not by the declaration alone. The evidence is the filing receipt with a copy of the declaration and the zone classification. Applies to activities with areas classified as explosion-risk under Title XI of D.Lgs. 81/2008 and the ATEX directive: fuel stations, painting operations, combustible dust silos, gas installations, spray booths and solvent stores.

Request an extraordinary inspection after a failure or a modification
An extraordinary inspection must be requested when a periodic inspection fails, when the installation is substantially modified, or at the employer's request: it has no statutory frequency and is event-driven, but after a failure the installation is not compliant until a favourable extraordinary report is obtained. The evidence is the extraordinary inspection report with a positive outcome. Applies to everyone subject to the periodic inspections of DPR 462/2001, whenever those conditions occur.

Have the earthing system inspected every 5 years
The employer maintains the system regularly and has it inspected every five years, at their own expense, by the local health authority, the environmental agency or a ministry-authorised body; the inspection covers both the earthing system and the lightning protection devices. The evidence is the periodic inspection report, to be kept and shown to inspectors. Applies to ordinary workplaces — offices, shops, warehouses and production sites — that are not construction sites, medical premises or environments with increased fire risk.

Have the earthing system inspected every 2 years in high-risk environments
For installations in construction sites, medical premises and environments with increased fire risk, the periodic inspection of the earthing system and of the lightning protection devices falls due every two years instead of five. The evidence is the periodic inspection report. Applies to temporary or mobile construction sites, medical premises (doctors' and dentists' surgeries, clinics, outpatient units, laboratories) and environments with increased fire risk as classified under CEI 64-8 section 751 or by the fire risk assessment.

Have installations in explosive atmospheres inspected every 2 years
Electrical installations in areas with explosion risk are subject to a two-yearly periodic inspection by the local health authority, the environmental agency or an authorised body, with none of the exceptions that apply to earthing systems. The evidence is the periodic inspection report, to be kept and made available to inspectors. Applies to activities with areas classified as explosion-risk because of gases, vapours, mists or combustible dusts, even where the classified area is only a small part of the site.

Notify commissioning of the earthing system
Within 30 days of commissioning the earthing system or the lightning protection devices, the employer sends the declaration of conformity to INAIL and to the competent local health or environmental authority; where a one-stop business desk exists the filing goes there, and the declaration of conformity serves as the system's type approval. The evidence is the filing receipt together with a copy of the declaration. Applies to every new earthing or lightning protection system commissioned in a workplace, including after substantial modifications that require a new declaration of conformity.
