Repeat the car roadworthiness test every 24 months
After the first test the owner presents the car for its roadworthiness test every 24 months. The evidence is the test report with the updated sticker; the new deadline runs from the month of the actual test, even when it was late, so lost time is not recovered. Applies to passenger cars and goods vehicles up to 3.5 t gross weight.

Have the motorcycle tested every 24 months
Motorcycles are subject to a roadworthiness test every 24 months, including the first test after registration. The evidence is the test report with the sticker on the number plate. Applies to registered motorcycles; mopeds with an insurance plate are not subject to the roadworthiness test.

Have the trailer or caravan roadworthiness tested
Trailers and caravans up to 3.5 t gross weight are tested every 24 months, with the first test after 36 months from registration for trailers up to 0.75 t; from 3.5 to 10 t the interval drops to 12 months and above 10 t the first test is after 24 months and then every 12 months. The evidence is the test report. Applies to trailers and caravans: the 24-month interval holds up to 3.5 t gross weight, above that 12 months apply, and trailers over 10 t additionally need the six-monthly safety inspection.

First roadworthiness test of the car after 36 months
New passenger cars must undergo their first roadworthiness test 36 months after first registration at an approved organisation such as TÜV, DEKRA, GTÜ or KÜS; from the second test onwards the interval is 24 months. The evidence is the test report together with the new sticker on the rear number plate, and since 2010 the emissions test is an integral part of the roadworthiness test. Applies to privately registered passenger cars; it does not apply to taxis, hire cars and passenger transport vehicles with more than eight seats, which follow annual intervals.
