Covers the periodic inspection of combustion plants and chimney sweeping (governed by provincial laws implementing the Art. 15a B-VG agreement, with Vienna used here as the example), the periodic vehicle inspection under § 57a KFG, and winter equipment. Does NOT cover industrial boiler plants under the EG-K (see the waste and environment kit), process gas installations, or building energy rules.

Have the wood or oil flue swept several times a year
Wood, wood chips, pellets and heating oil soil a flue far more than gas, so the chimney sweep calls several times a year: in Upper Austria 1 to 6 times for solid fuels depending on use, 2 to 4 for pellets, 2 to 6 for oil depending on the burner and 3 to 4 for closable open fireplaces. The quarterly reminder on this line is a middle value to be adjusted: someone heating only at weekends sits at the bottom of that range, someone burning wood all winter at the top. The building owner carries the duty, the competent chimney sweep does the work and the exact frequency is the one they state; the figures quoted apply in Oberösterreich.

Have the solid- or liquid-fuel plant inspected periodically
Have the solid- or liquid-fuel plant (oil, wood, pellets) inspected periodically by an authorised specialist firm: in Vienna every 2 years below 50 kW and annually above 50 kW, while CHP units (Blockheizkraftwerke) are inspected every year. The proof is the inspection report. Applies to solid- and liquid-fuel plants: the 24-month cadence is for outputs below 50 kW, above 50 kW and for CHP units the interval is annual, and the figures refer to Vienna.

Have the first inspection of the new heating plant carried out
After first commissioning the heating plant must be inspected by an authorised specialist firm; in Vienna the first inspection takes place within four weeks of commissioning, so plan it within 28 days. The proof is the inspection report (Überprüfungsbefund) kept by the operator. Applies to new or replaced heating plants; Vienna is the example used here and in the other provinces the deadline for the first inspection may differ.

Present the vehicle for the periodic inspection (Pickerl)
Cars and motorcycles up to 3.5 t are subject to the § 57a periodic inspection: the first three years after first registration, the second after two years, then annually. The proof is the § 57a report together with the inspection sticker (Begutachtungsplakette) on the vehicle; from 19 May 2027 the 42nd amendment to the KFG replaces the 3-2-1 rule with 4-2-2-2-1 and removes the tolerance period, allowing the inspection to be brought forward by up to four months. Applies to cars (class M1), motorcycles (class L) and trailers up to 3.5 t (O1, O2), whereas trucks, buses and vehicles used for commercial transport are inspected annually from the start.

Fit winter equipment from 1 November
From 1 November to 15 April, in wintry road conditions (snow, slush or ice), cars (M1) and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 t (N1), moped cars and vehicles with a trailer may only be driven with winter tyres on all wheels (marked M+S, M.S. or M&S; since 10 December 2018 the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol also qualifies) and a minimum tread depth of 4 mm for radial and 5 mm for cross-ply tyres. Alternatively, on carriageways continuously or almost continuously covered with snow or ice, snow chains fitted on at least two drive wheels are allowed; the proof is the tyre change record or invoice. Applies to cars (M1), light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 t (N1), moped cars and vehicles with a trailer registered or driven in Austria, as a situational duty that applies only when there is snow, slush or ice; heavy trucks (N2, N3) and buses (M2, M3) follow a separate regime in § 102 KFG, with the period for M2/M3 ending on 15 March.

Have the gas heating plant inspected periodically
Have the gas-fired plant inspected periodically by an authorised specialist firm: in Vienna every 4 years below 26 kW, every 2 years between 26 and 50 kW and annually above 50 kW. The proof is the inspection report. Applies to gas-fired plants: the 48-month cadence is for outputs below 26 kW, shorten it to 24 months between 26 and 50 kW and to 12 months above 50 kW, and these are Vienna's figures, which may differ in the other provinces.

Check how many flue sweeps your plant is due
The number of chimney sweep visits does NOT depend on the plant's output in kW, as is often written: it depends on the fuel and on how intensively the plant is used, and it ranges from 1 to 6 checks per year. The official table we were able to read is the Upper Austrian one (gas and condensing plants once per calendar year; solid fuels 1 to 6 times depending on use; pellets 2 to 4; oil 2 to 6; closable open fireplaces 3 to 4): it applies in Oberösterreich and cannot be transferred to the other eight provinces, which have their own chimney sweeping rules. The building owner carries the duty; the exact number for your plant is set by the competent chimney sweep, and that is the figure to record once a year.

Have the gas flue swept once a year
Gas-fired and condensing plants carry the lowest frequency of all: one chimney sweep visit per calendar year, according to the Upper Austrian table. It applies to buildings in Oberösterreich with a gas-fired combustion plant; in the other provinces the interval is set by the respective sweeping ordinance and may differ, as it does in Vienna where the periodic check is more frequent. The building owner carries the duty, the work belongs to the chimney sweep responsible for the district and the proof is their receipts and records.

Have the flue swept periodically
The competent chimney sweep carries out the periodic checks and sweeping of the flue according to the deadlines set by the provincial sweeping ordinance; in Vienna plants are checked four times a year with at least one annual sweeping of the flue. The proof is the sweep's records and receipts. Applies to buildings with flues connected to combustion plants: the intervals vary widely by province and by fuel, and Vienna's example cannot be transferred to the other provinces without checking.
